DESCRIPTION
Agriturismo Castello di Spedaletto suggests you the most suggestive itineraries to discover Val d’Orcia, the jewel of Tuscany.
The itinerary “Art History & Panorama” includes the departure from and the return to Spedaletto Castle and is designed for people traveling by car or motorbike, but the brave can also deal with cycling. In total, 58 Km entirely panoramic in the hills of Val d’Orcia with stops in the most picturesque villages of southern Tuscany. Here is the itinerary:
1) BAGNO VIGNONI:
The first stop is only 5 km from Spedaletto Castle and this is Bagno Vignoni, undoubtedly one of the most charming place of all the Val d’Orcia. Unique thermal center already famous since Roman times: kings and popes stopped here to enjoy the benefits of thermal waters. A romantic dip in the past …
2) CASTIGLIONE D’ORCIA:
Drive another 6 Km reach Castiglione d’Orcia, one of the medieval villages all gathered around the splendid fourteenth-century fortress. We strongly recommend visiting the ancient Tower of Tentennano, going up to the top you can see the entire Val d’Orcia from the top: one of the most beautiful views.
3) ABBAZIA DI SANT’ANTIMO:
From Castiglione d’Orcia continue on the scenic road to Montalcino with a stop at the Abbey of Sant’Antimo. Near Montalcino, one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Tuscany. The origin of the abbey is lost in legend, at the time of Charlemagne: Sant’Antimo is a magical place where you can still hear the beautiful Gregorian chants…
4) MONTALCINO:
The next stop takes you to the land of Brunello, one of the best red wines in the world. Montalcino however is not just wine, is also a beautiful town rich in art and history. A medieval city crossed by narrow, steep streets. Visit the fortress that dominates the vineyards that surround the town, the Tower of the Town Hall, churches and museums with rich collections of paintings and sculptures.
5) SAN QUIRICO D’ORCIA:
Last stop on our itinerary “Art History and Panorama” is San Quirico d’Orcia, where you can enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the local inns and restaurants. San Quirico is a village of ancient origins: the splendid fortresses, the collegiate church and the Pieve are some of the sights to visit in San Quirico, worth a special visit the remains of the ancient tower the and Horti Leonini, typical XVI century garden.
This itinerary will allow you to visit the most beautiful places Val d’Orcia easily accessible from our Agriturismo. A journey through hills and views to discover the most beautiful villages and corners of southern Tuscany.
